We followed the instructions on this page and headed down from the low point in the ridge on a due south bearing. We came out right at a very small stone bridge over a seasonal creek. THAT would be the place to leave the trail if you have no way to mark your mileage. Due north compass bearing should get you close enough to said low point in the ridge to make it workable.
