| My first peak after moving to ABQ on August 1st. Loved the lush North face of the canyon. 2:30 to the summit and 1:45 down, including a loop around to the Crest Trail and back over Deer Pass on the descent. | |

| Started out from South Sandia Crest trailhead (the free entrance) in Tijeras. At the 195A junction we hopped on the CCC trail which takes you to Deer Point directly. Fast but steep the trail is in surprisingly good condition. After catching the crest trail at the top we stopped by Deer Point and then took the trail along the face from the "saddle" to the summit of South Sandia Peak. We followed the Crest trail all the way back to the trailhead. Not many people on the way up, but quite a few on the way down. Good to see people out and about in the good weather. Awesome view of Albuquerque and the rest of the crest. | ||

| A new friend from work invited me on a hike up South Sandia and I quickly agreed to join him for my first NM summit. I later climbed the peak again on a south to north day hike that spanned the whole range and was 22+ miles long. | ||

| Started in Placitas and headed South, up, then along the Sandia ridge. Stopped in at the High Finance for a pint of course, then continued on. Camped with a great view of the Abq lights. Next day we hit the South Sandia summit and kept hiking till we hit I-40. Fun. | |

| This was my second time up from the Embudito trail. Excellent views and such. We are lucky to have such sublime wilderness right at our doorstep in Abq. | |

| 23 Jan 2006 - Embudo Trail A nice hike up the Embudo Trail, which is relatively easy to follow. It wasn't even very windy at the summit! It took around 5 hours round trip. 7 Sep 2003 - Embudito Trail A maze of trails down low made it difficult to find the correct way up. Other than that, a pleasant hike. | |
