Southwestern Thorn Apple

Weird name as best I can figure. I did not know the name until I looked up this flower in a book. It only blooms early in the morning and then closes for the remainder of the day. I don't think I had ever noticed one of these flowers before this picture, even though it is a trail I frequent with my mountain bike.
