Spring by Lake Solina

Sweet Violet (Viola odorata) is a perennial native to Europe. It can be found near mountain streams, in thickets and on the edges of forests up to the elevations of 1400 meters. Their five-petal flowers are very fragrant and appear from March to May. Their dark green, heart shaped leaves often have scalloped or serrated edges and grow in a rosette at the base of the plant. Both flowers and leaves of Sweet Viola are edible and have medicinal properties. The Ancient Greeks considered the Violet a symbol of fertility and love.
