Squaw Lake

Squaw Lake

This is a pretty little lake just up the trail less than two miles. It's a nice little lake with nearby views to the E of decent peaks. For a two day trip up Daniel, this just doesn't make sense as a campsite as it is not far enough up the trail. However, if you are coming from Seattle after work, it works fairly well to drive up to the trailhead, backpack in the brief distance to Squaw and then hike Daniel and go out the next day. This will give you a more pleasant wilderness camp than the crowded TH or campgrounds down below and it shaves 1200 feet of gain off of the summit day to make it a little bit easier for those of us who are slowpokes or if you are doing it in late season with shorter daylight. And you've only used up some after work time on a Friday rather than making it into a two day affair and spending both weekend days. I camped at Squaw the first time I did Daniel in October; the second time we just dayhiked it.
