This route (actually the entire mountain) is so much more enjoyable by Skis in the touring season. Almost the same route (only difference: don't go over the rib between the Alallin and Hohlaubglacier, rather go around it on lower end and directly on Alallinglacier), with a much faster descent this long distance back down the glacier (30 min from top to bottom of the counter ascent to hut).
I think it is one of the fun parts of putting a descriptive page together, editing photos etc. And with this route, having stumbled around in the dark, not entirely sure where to go and then met a pair who went the wrong way - it made me want to make it very clear... some may feel it is over-kill, detracting from the pioneering spirit - but in my view the pioneering spirit can go to the devil in crevasse and boulder fields especially before dawn!
Good luck with your plans for 2015 - have you still got the Monte Rosa summits on your wish-list?
best wishes, Mark
Hi Mark, well, it is ether the Monta Rosa summits or the Bernese Alps. Climbing mountains like Jungfrau, Monch and Finsteraarhorn will be just awesome. So we're still thinking about it :-) Did you make your plans for 2015 yet? Cheers, Lodewijk
