BEWARE!

If you are doing this route on skis or on snow make sure you stay left on return when doing the final descent back into the trees from the flatish part of Shannon ridge. If you are two far right you will get into steep terrain at best and at worst end up in the Swift creek drainage. My parter made this mistake and spent 40 hours getting down to the Baker lake road!

what this route description absolutely should mention is that a backcountry permit from the North Cascades National Park ranger station in Sedro Wooley is required to camp above the notch (read: anywhere remotely near the high camp)
