Summer Adventures Part 3 (Sugarloaf Peak- July)

On July 2nd, 2013 we began the drive up Little Cottonwood Canyon to the Albion Basin Campground. Our plan was to hike to Sugarloaf Peak from Albion Basin. We reached Alta Ski Resort and were shocked to learn that the summer road didn't open until July 4th. Nevertheless, we started hiking up near the Sunnyside lift until we reached the Sugarloaf Lift Service Road. We hiked up the road for 3.5 miles (Avoiding an Alta maintenance vehicle) until we reached the top of Cardiff Pass and Sugarloaf Lift. From there, it was another mile of scrambling to the summit of Sugarloaf Peak at 11,053. This opened the peakbagging season for me, but it was supposed to be an easy hike. Instead of 5 miles, it was 8.5 due to the late road closure, but the weather was clear and hiking good.
