Nice

Interesting colors...looks like a good weather, so why didn't you reach the summit?

P.S.
Can you tell me, what's harder...?...Pisco or Yanapaccha?I guess Yanapaccha...

Re: Nice

The weather was excellent the entire time we were in Peru (7/1-7/17/06). Unfortunately a friend of mine that came climbing didn't tell us he wasn't feeling well on summit day and got sick on the way up Yanapaccha and ended up puking and dry heaving on the glacier. About half way up there's a large snow bridge we had to go over. I was the middle person in the rope team and felt a tug when I was moving, looked back and he was falling asleep where he stood and looked like he was about to fall off the snow bridge. So, we had a meeting and decided to turn around. By the time we got back to base camp it was around 9am and no one wanted to make another push.

Of the two mountains, Pisco is the easier to get to the top. Pisco doesn't require much front pointing while there are some fairly significant sections of Yanapaccha that require it. Yanapaccha is a nicer mountain to climb though as few people know it exists so there are few tracks on the glacier.

Nice Photo

Nice photo, but sorry to hear about your friend and the failed attempt. Better safe than sorry, as always. Way to use good judgment.
