One Word: HOT!!!
A friend and I were driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, the day prior to hiking with an additional friend up Charleston Peak (Nevada), when we decided to do some hiking in the Mojave National Preserve while en route. Teutonia Peak presented a wonderful opportunity to see the desert in all its glory. The walk through the desert had its rewards, as did the scramble near the summit. Many beautiful desert wildflowers, but it was HOT during our hike. We saw a few desert lizards, but at least there were no encounters with rattlesnakes while we were there. This area was my first encounter with Joshua Trees, which I think are very cool.
The summit log -- which was in bad shape when I saw it -- is on the exact point given for elevation on the USGS 24k topo. It isn't approached by the main trail, and involves some class 3/4 for the last 100 or so vertical feet.

Incredible area
Very rewarding walk with some scrambling. This area has the greatest forest of Joshua trees I've ever seen -- nowhere else comes close. Cima Dome is also a must-see.

So I walked up Teutonia for the heck of it. Fun scrambling at the top.

a favorite little hike
been up to this little peak a couple of times. love the giant joshuas at the base. oh but didn't know there was a summit log, will have to hunt for it next time i go up.

Climbed from the east
I climbed this one with Rex Hardy, Les & Kirk Rekve, Steve & Tyrel Stembridge, Ed & Cody Seastrunk, and Adam Thomas. We all got to the central summit block summit cairn with the summit register in the tin can. Just prior to that I had climbed up the north summit, then the south summit with Adam (which has a cairn, but no register). While the others spent 20 minutes coaxing Kirk over a gap while coming down the central summit, I topped out on the subsidiary crag mentioned by CP0915 on his very informative page for this peak.

Direct from east side
Went direct to east side of talus, then straight up the wash to notch described by CP. Never saw the cairn. Was at the summit in 35 minutes or less.
The position given by the USGS is the correct summit; I just did a gps GOTO on that point.
There was minor snow below the notch; else it was just cold (26F at noon on Kessler).
