The canyon gets very narrow...
The canyon gets very narrow and dark. Here the canyon is only a few feet wide, but hundreds of feet deep. Violent (but only a few times a year) flash floods carve these slot canyons. The log was brought from several miles and wedged in the canyon walls by a flash flood. If a flood hits while you're in the canyon, you're a goner for sure!
