He just wore a hood over his helmet, as I recall ... it was kinda snowy that day (this is a little clearer in the large version of the pic).

Oh! Thank goodness. I've never heard of someone not wearing a helmet ice climbing.

I've seen people not only climbing in LVC without helmets, but leading ! Nutty ... but it's a circus on weekends.
