The Gorge can be a brutal...

The Gorge can be a brutal place whan the rare arctic front comes over the area. It was 6 degrees F. when I shot this photo along the freeway and winds were gusting to about 60 MPH. The river rarely freezes completely but nearly did in early Feb. '96. Great day to test out winter wear!

Hello Holk,

Thanks for the compliment. Too bad ODOT gets all excited these days and closes the road when the weather turns the least bit nasty. Driving into the gorge to see the waves, wind and ice was always one of the fun things to do in the winter. That '96 event was neat and I don't think they closed the road even once during that week or so.
