I've seen climbers toproping during my hikes at Great Falls, but I never knew that the gorge was this rich in rock climbing routes.

There are tons of routes and crags on both sides. The Virginia side is better, with more routes and higher cliffs. When water levels are low enough, it's fun to scramble along the rocks at the edge of the water; you can traverse much of the gorge that way and avoid the hiking crowds above.
