The Kong

[ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ]
The Kong
Rappin' off the Kong. We made several trips up here in the early 70s and eventually worked out a five pitch 5.11 free climb that has not been repeated as of 2011. The approach involves a solid 10 mile hike and 1000 foot class 3/4 steep gully that is best climbed with snow. We had a near death experience up here when we were pinned on a ledge during a lightning storm one summer. South Fork of the Payette River, Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho

Yup, some of the nicest rock I've ever encountered in the Sawtooths.
