The Kreuzkamm from close to the Breslauer Hütte

The pointed summit on the left is the Talleitspitze (3408m), the one on the right, with the summit obscured by clouds, the Kreuzspitze (3457m). This photo was taken near the Breslauer Hütte (2840m). But don't think you can get there quickly: in between lies the Rofental, and the valley floor is only just above 2000m! The Kreuzspitze is actually quite a popular mountain, but coming from the other side: there may be snow fields, especially early summer, but there is no glacier and no scrambling required, making it one of the highest peaks in the area that's anybody in good shape can scale. 7 July 2012.

Re: My father

It's been a few years, so I'm not 100% sure about it, but it's probably the first 3000-er that I scaled. I was a hiker back then, curious for more, and in a few days I was going to attend a two week mountaineering course. It was part of my preparations, stretching my legs and getting used to the thin air.
While technically easy, going up and down over 1500m in a day from Vent was a unique experience for me back then, and those summit views were mightily impressive. Being so inexperienced, I made a big mistake by leaving my camera at home because I was trying to save weight. Can you believe it? I still have a photo of me on the summit, taken by a fellow hiker. These days, my camera is about the last thing I do not take with me!

As it happens, I've recently adopted the Kreuzspitze page, and as soon as I'm done posting the photos I took when I returned to the area last year I'll rework it. If your father took photos in the good old days, it would be nice if you could post them, and I might use them on the page.

Cheers, Rob
