Deep In The Heart...Texans often like to think that Texas has everything. Foreigners (non-Texans) will point out that the state is SO flat, only to be countered by the knowledgeable Texan that the state does indeed have mountains. This is true. Texas is only MOSTLY flat. Where terrain is to be found are areas of surprising and often spectacular beauty. Most of these areas are in the Transpecos; that part of Texas lying west of the Pecos River. This area contains Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains National Parks. Other beautiful, if less wild, places are found in the Texas Hill Country and the Texas Panhandle. All in all, Texas may not be the most beautiful state (contrary to local opinion and Texas state law) but it certainly has numerous places to be proud of.
