WOW

Great TR... congrats on making it out. Those decisions to turn back are always the hardest- it's just so close, and an easy walk off from the top vs. at least we know what's below us.

Babtism by fire indeed!

Awesome TR, sounds like one for the record books. Glad to hear that you made it off the mountain, man would it have sucked to have been stuck up there! Still, the mental image of you and your partner running like hell on the glacier made me laugh very hard, though I guess it wasn't that funny to you.

What a memory!

I have always had a great ammount of respect for individuals who are willing to turn back, even with the summit so close. It sounds like you made the right choice.

Great Route

What a great route. I climbed it once upon a time. It's hard to transfer ratings from area to area sometimes, but I didn't think it was quite that hard. After doing a lot of face climbing at Smith Rock and then doing this I had the impression it was closer to 5.9. Big deal. How about that bombay chimney at the end?

informative

Good report -- relevant pictures, and a sense of the emotional stress involved.

Great Respect

I know this wall from our Mont Blanc trip last year via Maudit and Tacul. We were camping close to Midi when there was an accident. One guy fell off the top (almost 20m) down on small area which caught his fall. Don't know any details, but two rescuers had to rappel to him from heli. Not so nice when you hear screaming and shouting. I would like to climb it once when I get more experience.
