The Mystery Cross

So what's the story behind this metal cross? It overlooks the Santa Clara Valley from a nice vantage point on the slope of Mission Peak. Maybe it's a memorial to Walter Starr, Jr., who spent much of his childhood on Mission Peak? Maybe somebody buried their favorite pet there? Maybe it's just a religious thing?
