the perfect pyramid of Tofana...

the perfect pyramid of Tofana di Rozes seen from NNW at Monte Castello (March 2001, a winter with unusual much snow in the southern alps). In the distance on the right is Monte Civetta

Re: This is beautiful!

it was a strange weather: we left the hut in the morning under heavy clouds. After an hour walk a blue line occured on the horizon and after a further hour the sky was mostly blue. When I took this picture the first clouds occured again. On our downhill and the walk back to the hut we got into a heavy snow shower. This view to Tofana was the event of the day.

Re: This is beautiful!

The north slope looks quite steep for a ski tour. But still it is described as such.

Did you climb Castello from the Gross Fanes side? Did you ski from there?

Re: Tofana ski tour

a ski tour to Tofana di Rozes is - as far as I have read - a difficult, almost extreme one, which can only be done if all conditions fit perfect.

Compared to this the ski tour from Fanes hut - Limo Joch - Gross Fanes Alp - Vallon Bianco to the Bivacco della Pace at foot of the rocks of Monte Castello (as we did) is a very simple one, a little flat, but nice.
