... in two days. We stopped at Lake of the Clouds Hut, during the day/night with the most fierce wind of that year: 90mph. The rain during that night made being hit with a firefighter's hose a nice, friendly shower. We were very glad indeed to be inside. The same traverse in one day? Very durable but one has to be solo and very focused. Knowing the route helps.

N to S
With Jamie Gagnon and Ryan Draft. Dep Cambridge MA at 2.30; Appalachia TH 5.30; Full minimum [if that's not too oxymoronic...] traverse (incl Clay etc) to Pierce; AMC Highland Ctr 5.15 pm; unexpectedly superb barbecue buffet dinner at Highland Ctr [perfect fare at the end of a long hike]; pick up Highland Ctr -> Appalachia TH 6pm via Trail Angels Shuttle Service (978 855 9227; $100 for the three of us). Back in Cambridge 10pm. Long day! Gorgeous weather and a Sunday: *a lot* of people on the trails.

Route: Presi Traverse
After spending 2.5 months climbing 14ers, this was a cinch. Took just over 12 hours with many stops to talk with people. Weather was perfect.

Thirteen hour hike north to south
This was the first hike I did out east that was harder than my one day escapade on Blanca Peak in Colorado in 2011. I overslept, started at 830 am, and ran out of sunlight at 651 pm on the summit of Eisenhower. The weather was damn near perfect but with all that sun I blew through water like a horse. Like the author said, four liters is a good recommendation even with refilling at the midpoint of Mt Washington. Crawford Path between Monroe and Pierce was a treat compared to the Gulfside Trail between Adams and Jefferson. Eisenhower was pretty easy in fact. The descent from Pierce was harsh though, especially in the dark after so many hours on the trail. It took me thirteen hours of which twelve of that was on the move and the rest was breaks on various summits.
