On the western slope of Ślęża Mt. (see the Ślęża Massif page) there is an abandoned area with a quarry where granite and white quartz were mined (see a red arrow on a map). It is located within a mountain called Quartz Mountain (ca 330 m asl). This mountain is surrounded by beech forest and ravines eroded in the granite bottom by temporal brooks. A ridge of the quarry is overgrown by pines, birches and less by spruces. Its bottom is covered by seedlings of trees, mosses, lichens and herbs like Solidago, Rubus and Juncus. Within granite walls sometimes one can see small brushes of rock crystals and veins of a white quartz. On some stones Mn and Fe minerals like psilomelane, hematite and goethite crystallized. Here I met for the first time a very special form of ladybird.
This place is not very often visited by tourists, however its geology, mineralogy, fauna and flora is worth of our interest.
