The Scarlet Cup Fungus

The Scarlet Cup Fungus

Sarcoscypha coccinea is a beautiful cup-shaped mushroom that can be found growing on hardwood sticks and branches of deciduous trees. It grows in winter and early spring in damp places, including the areas where snow is still melting. It can grow in clusters or as a singular mushroom. Its scarlet red color fades with age to orangish. Sarcoscypha coccinea is described as edible in some books, but because it is rare it should be left alone. The Low Beskid - March 30, 2014.
