Ditto

This page shows your enthusiasm about the region. Doesn't jade appear in Nephrite? Are there any Jade deposits in this area of Poland?

Hope I can visit someday. Thanks!

Re: Ditto

Hi!!! Jade is expected to be in Piedmont, Serbia, however, geological activity in the Sleza massif was such a kind that appearance of jade is very probable. I will ask my friends from Geology Faculty about it. Sleza is closest mountain to me. I saw it this morning and if weather next week will be good I will do some trip around the massif.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a nice moment!!!

Re: Ditto

Hi!!! Once again. :-)
Now I can you tell that jade was found in Poland in two sites.
One is just in the Sleza Massif on the Tapadla Pass separating the Radunia's and Sleza's massifs, the second is in the Owl Mts. (in Polish Sowie Mts.) which are a range of the Sudetes Mts. southward from Sleza. The Owl Mts. are visible on the title picture behind the massif.
Then we know now a little more! This information I get just at the moment from my colleague, an archaeologist.
Cheers!!!!!!!!!

Nicely done Romek

I wouldn't guess that the name may refer to a tribal history - to me it just means "Tear Drop", a beautiful but probably incorrect ethymology

Re: Nicely done Romek

Hi!!! It is not exactly so. In SP I can not to write properly Polish words. For example, the first letter of Sleza is "s" with upper comma, the third is not "e" but "e" with curved comma below, the fourth is not "z" but "z" with upper dot. Finally, the pronunciation of "Sleza" is completely different. My proposal "seelenja" needs to read "en" like English ending "ng" and "j" like in John.
Thanks for your attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is my pleasure!!!!!!!!!
The best to you!!!!!!!!!

Re: Nicely done Romek

Hi, Friend!!!
Once again on "Tear Drop". I think that we can not reject here the common ethymology for a name of this tribe and Russian "sleza". A rain is dropping and is wet and the same is with tears. Maybe roots for both words are the same.
All the best to you!!!!!!!!!!

impressive page!

Romek, you've just written a professional monography of Ślęża! Chapeaux bas :)
BTW, who knows if the Slavic words for 'tear': Russian 'slyoza' (in English transcription), Czech 'slza', Serbian/Croatian 'suza', Polish 'łza' (in old Polish 'śloza') don't have common ethymology with 'ślęga' and 'ślęgwa' that you mentioned (didn't know them!). All those things are wet after all.
I'm not an ethymologist, just like playing around with Slavic languages :)
