The Spring

The spring near Michalovské sedlo can be a critical source of drinking water, especially to hikers planning to spend the night at the shepherd's hut which is about a mile away. Although the spring is marked on the map, it is not easy to find it without directions: From the northernmost tip of the clearing (Zadná poľana), take about fifty strides down the marked trail, across the clearing, then leave the main path and walk along the edge of the forest through the meadow. Having walked about 15m, find a big double-trunked spruce from which a clear path leads out into the forest, running nearly horizontally along the side of the valley. Follow the path patiently for nearly 200m. The path seems to be well-maintained and the double-trunked spruce at its beginning is marked with a green spot.
