The top of Black Mesa. Past...

The top of Black Mesa. Past these mesas are the flatlands and small rising buttes and mesas of the New Mexico prairie, but looming in the distance is the Union County, New Mexico high point, and volcano, Sierra Grande: Elevation: 8,720 feet. According to research done by highpointers club members, Sierra Grande is the nearest county highpoint to Yancey County, North Carolina, home of Mt. Mitchell, the highest mountain in the Eastern United States. Photo taken by Daniel Fleischmann in April 2001.
