Re: What a great read

Yes, I was invited because of Young Chu. I never had any desire for Everest, expedition climbing wasn't my cup of tea. Glad you enjoyed the artice!

I met Park Hoon Kyu 2016

I was with Alpine Ascents on a Denali 8 Day Training Course at Denali Base Camp this year. We had just reached Base Camp June 7 from the East Fork to catch a Talkeenta Air Taxi out. When we arrived a storm had moved in and no planes. We set up tents. Next to us were some Koreans. I heard they had flown to the glacier to send off the 2016 Korean Summit Team. I went over to meet them. There were 4 in camp. An older gentleman, a young lady, a young man and and another older man.

I was greeted by the young lady. She spoke good English. She introduced me to the first gentleman who was her father. He had grown up in the Korean Mountains and started a successful mountain clothing and gear company, Kolping. They were the sponsors of the 2016 team.

She then introduced me to Mr Park Hoon Kyu and told me the story of the 1979 Expedition. I was honored to meet him. He looks the same and is very fit. He didn't say much and seemed to have a grim face. I was honored to meet up with him. We were in base camp together 2 days due to inclement weather.

Small world, glad you had a chance to meet him. Out of curiosity and perspective, was the story they told you similar to my story? Thanks.
