This is a view of the service road, heading up to Potosi Mountain. There were a couple of weeks of sunny days preceeding this hike, so the south slopes were completely dry, but in the shadows on north-facing slopes, there was some icy snow. In mid December, I was able to leave the crampons in the car, but by late winter, I would suspect the sunny, dry areas are more scarce. Photo taken 19 December 2004.
