This is a view of the service...
This is a view of the service road, heading up to Potosi Mountain. There were a couple of weeks of sunny days preceeding this hike, so the south slopes were completely dry, but in the shadows on north-facing slopes, there was some icy snow. In mid December, I was able to leave the crampons in the car, but by late winter, I would suspect the sunny, dry areas are more scarce. Photo taken 19 December 2004.

surgentThat was before the fire!

Voted 10/10

The 2005 fire stripped off a lot of trees. Much of the route (in 2008) still was barren slope.
