I am going cycling for several months on Baffin Island, and part of my route will include Mt Thor. I am not a climber and will not be doing the usual climbs up the main face, however I intend climbing the mountain from the back. Do you know where I can find some information on this? My Baffin Island mountaineering book only talks about the real climbs up the face, and I am having trouble finding info on the route, difficulty, rockfall danger, equipment required, etc elsewhere as well. Are there any forums you would suggest where I can find other people who have done this? I am also wondering whether it is possible/necessary to camp part way up, or if the climb and descent is normally accomplished in one day. It seems to me I may be able to camp on the higher ground to the east of the mountain on the night before beginning the climb, though I do not know whether high winds channel through there, making it treacherous for camping.
