I've got a question in this context: Not long ago I saw a documentary about the Cumbra Vieja and the fact that the volcano is being destabilized by water, which could eventually lead to an enormous part of the western flank breaking off and sliding into the sea, causing a tsunami which would be large and forceful enough to seriously endanger the entire east coast of the USA! Did you hear anything about this when you were on La Palma?

Actually, the southernmost village of La Palma is called Fuencaliente - Hot Springs. However a 18th century eruption covered the hot spring. On Lanzarote they have a place where they built a restaurant above a geothermic vent. They barbecue food on that stream of hot air. Beside the building guides pour water down pipes into the earth and this is what happens:
