Three hours out of basecamp. Very gentle trail made mostly by the mules. If you have to sleep on the trail its best to avoid the clumps you see. They are full of needles. I wear gaitors here not only for the dust and rocks but to keep the needles out of my shoelaces. December 2001, William Marler
