Route Climbed: Dawson Saddle Date Climbed: June 10, 2004
Perfect Southern California day, at least in the mountains. Bagged Throop Peak first, then went on to Baden-Powell and bagged Burnham Peak on the hike out. 4 1/2 hours car to car.
Route Climbed: Dawson Saddle Date Climbed: August 29, 2003
Climbed solo first time. Climbed again May29, 2004 with my Dad, two of my kids(6&10yrs), and my friend and his son. Still a little snow about. Great day hike.
Route Climbed: PCT from Vincent Gap Date Climbed: April 4, 1980
Camped on top in snow on my PCT thru hike in 1980 with my two hiking partners. Enjoyed beautiful night light views of the Southern California basin that evening.
Route Climbed: PCT from Islip Saddle Date Climbed: May 5, 2001
Started at the Islip Saddle parking lot taking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Tagged Mt. Islip (8250') and Mt. Hawkings (8850') on the way to Throop Peak. Continued on to Mt. Baden-Powell (9399'). I returned the same way back to the Islip Saddle trailhead. It was a sunny clear day in early May. I recalled encountering some snow patches near Mt Hawkings.
Route Climbed: Dawson Saddle Date Climbed: Many times
This is a nice, easy hike to do on a summer evening. The views are great all along the trail, since much of it consists of hiking along or very close to a ridge. The grade is pretty gradual. In winter there is quite a bit of ice on the trail, but with instep crampons it should still be pretty easy.
