Nice

Nice trip report. I went to Philmont in 1980 (722I-2), got my Eagle Scout in 1981. It was a great trip. Our trip was also a council contingent, with some interesting group dynamics because one of the leaders didn't want the boys to lead. We nearly took him out by soaping his food. We didn't, but gave him other more gentle persuasions that we could handle things and he was to be an "advisor". Good times, one of my best experiences with the scouts. Has the food gotten any lighter? If I remember we actually had some cans given to us in the supplies.

Re: Nice

They still provide some cans--canned meat, for example. But at least it's real meat! :-) Thanks for stopping by! --mark d.

Nice Report

haha I love the food at Philmont (that is compared to most people in our crew) at ever swap box we would pass I would add another pound to my pack in food. The whole time I was eating but yet I lost 13 pounds. We almost ordered pizza to. However, we still had alot of hiking ahead of us and for some reason, three rangers were just hanging out under the bridge resting. So we didn't. We had bad weather on Baldy so we didn't stay up there long. I don't know if you remember or not but last year a scout got struck by lightening, but that was on the same day we summited.

Re: Nice Report

Yeah, we raided the swap boxes regularly, too. We were always hungry for more food after we ate--especially dinner! --mark d.
