Great report

I have done Pikes in summer (93, 94?)as the folks live in the Springs, but I have always wanted to do it in Winter. Your report is encouraging. (I didn't even know Barr Camp was staffed in Winter.) I did the Whiskey route up Kili in 2000 with Zara-awesome. Have great trip...I look forward to reading about it.

Nice TR

Always wanted to ski the route you climbed, but it never held enough snow when I lived there. Of course, this is my first winter out of Colorado...

Good Luck in Africa

Hey Kevin,
Great trip report! I love that gully. I came down that way last spring and it saved us a lot of misery on the switchbacks. Good luck on Kili. I can't wait for that trip report and pictures.
Climb On!

Reminds me of...

my winter hike up Pikes a few years ago. Got turned around at Windy Point. After returning to Barr Camp (where I had spent the night), they said "Yeah... we usually just tell people to go straight up the gully". NOW they tell me! Good luck on Kili!!!

Nice

I was just looking at that gully today from the freeway and wondering if anyone hikes it. Nice job.

Great Trip Report

Thanks for sharing your trip. Since the snow has begun to fall these last few days in the Springs, I am going to be watching the snow conditions on the peak carefully this 2013-2014 winter season. Maybe a summit is possible!
