2nd Ascent
The road in seemed in better shape than the last time. About 7 miles in from the highway is a steep, short, boulder filled washout. Careful wheel placement is a must, and 4WD is recommended. My Tacoma made it without a hitch. Windy over night and throughout the day. Much snow to be seen on Telescope, Signal, and the Sierra crest is a long white line.

From Tucki Mine Road
Made it to Martin's Crossing in a 4X4 Chevy Silverado without too much problem. Kind of a boring hike compared to other peaks in the area. Also climbed to the Surprise Canyon Wilderness Highpoint, Canyon Point, Towne BM, Panamint Butte, Pinto Peak, Nelson Range HP, and Malpais Mesa HP on this four day trip.

Telephone Canyon / Tucki Mine Road
With 8.5 inches of clearance and AWD, my car only made it about 3/4 of the way up Telephone Canyon. There is a bad washout with huge rocks. About 1 or 2 hours of work and moving rocks around might make this road drivable again all the way to Martins Crossing. Otherwise, bring a Jeep. We hiked from the washout which was about 2 miles shorter than the Skidoo route and also less vertical gain.
This is a very complex and interesting mountain, but not really very pleasant compared to other peaks in Death Valley. We came within 75 yards of 2 bighorn sheep. Other things we did on this trip include Ord, Eureka Dunes HP, Sandy Point, Last Chance, Chocolate, Towne BM, and Ibex Dunes HP.

From the DPS B TH
I camped at the 2WD parking spot, very nice and flat. It was nearly ten miles round trip. The wind starting picking up during the day, and by the time I had driven over to the Porter Peak area to climb Porter the next day, the wind was howling.

From Emigrant Campground
We don't need no stinkin' 4wd. Just walked from Emigrant ~2100'; Started at 4:10 AM. It was slated to be a warm day, so I wanted to be out of the wash by about noon. Hardest part was crossing Emigrant Wash in the dark. Once in Telephone Canyon, I took the first ridge at left (N) and followed it to the top ridge ~ 6400', thence N to the rounded peak. About 6100' accumulated, 17 miles RT. Remember, Tucki rhymes with Sucky, Yucky ...

From Tucki Mine Rd
Penelope May and I were at Stove Pipe Wells attending a concert by Barnaby Finch and Friends (an Idyllwild group) so decided to hike up Tucki Mountain. Took our RAV4 9 miles on Tucki Mine Road up to the top over Martin's Crossing and had a pleasant hike rest of the way. 7.5 miles, 2,000' gain. 2 hrs 30 min. 2 hrs down. Wonderful views.

From Tucki Mine Road
Pretty easy once you figure out where to start from on that Tucki Mine Road. It's definitely 4WD. But the hike is great and the views the whole way are very nice.
