Getting There

I woke up in Boulder at about 8am and hit the road by about 9am. The best way to the Twin Sisters trailhead from Boulder is the following:
-Head North on Hwy 36 (28th street in Boulder)
-In Lyons, take Hyw 7 (Peak to Peak Scenic Byway) through Allenspark
-Pass the Long's Peak trailhead area and continue on Hwy 7
-Look for the Twin Sister's trail parking area on your right hand side. It's just across from Lily Lake, between mile markers 6 and 7.
Total driving time from Boulder is about 45 minutes.

Ascent

In the winter, you start hiking from the parking area right off Hwy 7 and hike (maybe 0.25 miles) up an unplowed road to the trailhead. The trail is moderately steep and switchbacks for a couple of miles through forest before reaching timberline. One interesting point is that the trail transitions a few times between Rocky Mountain National Park and National Forest territory, and you'll see signs indicating that. In the winter, you might (or might not) need snowshoes depending on recent snowfall and trail activity. I've seen it both ways. One of the nice things about this trail is that you can get some spectacular views of Long's Peak immediately west:

After about 3.5 miles you'll reach a cool hut (locked) with a communications tower nearby.

You can take a short scramble to the summit from there. Elevation is about 11,400'
