Unknown mountains along the Karakoram Highway

Unknown mountains along the Karakoram Highway

I took this shot on an expedition to climb Muztagh Ata in July of 2013. I have uploaded a large resolution version of this photo in hopes that others will appreciate the size and scale of the mountains in this region of the world. I have no idea what peak this is, but we hit snow at 17,500' a few miles away from this location. Additionally, the road where I took the shot from is at about 11,200', which gives us a sense of the scale. I have a feeling this peak is a 6,000 meter goliath with a Cerro Fitz Roy look-alike erupting out of the center like a zit. There is so much potential for climbing remote routes in this region. I can't even imagine what lurks 1 valley north of here. Feel free to download this image, but it is not to be used without the author's explicit consent.
