unknown scat 2

Saw the same thing yesterday in Voyagers National park in Minnesota, 5/9/14. 6 piles in a 20ft radius. Ground soft, even some snow yet no tracks.

I know

It's ruffed grouse scat.

A bird, looks like a chicken

No tracks because it flew away

Hey, I just saw this!

Took a picture and figured I'd look it up online. Neat- ruffed grouse would make sense. Seen in Upstate/Finger Lakes region of New York while hiking in a wooded wildlife management area. Seems like a lot of scat for one grouse !

unknown scat

Hi from Canada, I have came across this scat a few times. I had ruffed grouse all around my house on the mountain and I only saw 1 pile of scat like that in 7 yrs. I saw that scat when something killed 5 chickens in about 2 minutes, they were free range chickens. The only thing that was left was the scat. Once in 7 years. My opinion it is not grouse. 4 years ago I saw the same scat just out from my cabin in bush. There is only pintail grouse there. I went to a outdoor sportsman show and showed it to the conservation officer, and all outdoor clubs and they did not know. I saw it last year again, old scat on the rocks of a lake shore. Yes I would like to get to the bottom of this, if you got any other good suggestions let me know. Thanks bye
