A Few Words: I was always inspired by mountains but have only recently made them a hobby. At 12 I was taken up Katahdin and along the Knife Edge, and in college I walked up a few of the Alps but never thought all that much about mountains. As a professional mountain bike racer when I traveled I always wanted to climb the highest thing around, either on my bike or carrying it. Now I have a teenage daughter and our biggest shared interest is in climbing the 50 state highpoints. I realized when we started I'd already climbed 6 of these without even knowing it. Now we have climbed 10 high points together and every year I try to up the ante a little. So far she's loved the harder challenges, and this year we did a one-day Presidential traverse (NH) and Katahdin. So next year we're going to Colorado with at least 4 14'ers on our list. One day I hope to take her up Grand Teton, Shasta, the Bugaboos, maybe Denali, and if she's still hungry, my dream is to go to the wilds of Kyrgystan and climb some of those incredibly beautiful unclimbed mountains!
