A Few Words: IN MEMORY OF SERGEY SAMOILOV
Sergey and his strong Kazakh team were attempting a Lhotse-Everest traverse when tragedy struck. An avalanche claimed Sergey's life. He was one of the finest mountaineers of our time with new routes on Manaslu and Broad Peak in alpine style and an amazing climb of K2 very late in the season.

There are those climbers you get along with, climb with, promise to keep in contact with and then forget.
There are also those you click with. Those you feel you have a lot in common with and like a lot. Sergey was one of those.
Off the mountain I will remember a calm, soft spoken and a little bit laconic friend.
On the mountain I remember a person loving what he was doing. When I met Sergey in a blizzard on 7000m I felt he was in his right environment. Other climbers were suffering, looking worried and tired. Sergey had a faint smile on his face radiating strength and confidence.
Farewell Sergey.
