Re: When Taken?When you get to the Rim view, that is just the start! If you keep taking the trail towards Broken Top, you will see the view. The bootpath continues to the base of Broken Hand. You can proceed around on either the north or south side - though you might need an ace or crampons from this site depending upon conditions. I am not sure that views are worth continuing unless you are heading into the Crater or around to green Lakes. I stopped there since I was going to neither and I had a corgi along with me that I did not want to carry over soft scree and snow.
I would think it would be a good cross country ski to connect with Tumalo or Bachelor, as well.
