Re: Nasty!

It is - at least for me. Plus it is only going to get bigger by the time we (hopefully) get to that area again, sometime in October...

Re: Nasty!

Thanks for posting, Pavel. Looks like you could still just walk across it at that point though, right? Planning on going there in a couple of weeks.

Re: Nasty!

I did U-Notch, this is V-Notch - I don't think the photo gives you a good idea how huge the srund is - it is really big. There may an easier way on one of the sides, I did not get close enough to investigate, but it was not obvious. When are you planning to go? We were thinking mid-late October?

Re: Nasty!

Just plan on 70 degree ice and the 'schrund will go fine!

Re: Nasty!

Looking at the weekend after this one for the V-Notch. I think that this is the best time for alpine ice in the Sierra- too much longer & you might be risking getting stuck in a storm like last year's. Also the colder it gets (i.e. later in the season) the worse the ice conditions are going to be (i.e. dinner plating). Good luck when you go! See you at the presentation tomorrow!

Re: Nasty!

I'm sure it's dinner plating now, but it was when I did it too. Quite the climb under full water ice conditions - recommended!
