VegeMight Buttress, 5.8 R, 1,100 ft., Red Butte, Zion, UT

This is the reason the route is called VegeMight. There were several instances of vertical climbing through vegetation. Not only do I hate vertical bushwhacking, but I also hate the Aussie spread. Pitch 5 – 5.7, 200’ Climb low 5th past several bushes for about 100’ until the terrain steepens. At this point my partner uttered, “After climbing through so many bushes, I’m scared to climb rock.” It was funny at the time. The last 100’ of this pitch have some of the best rock of the entire route. Belay below a pinnacle of rock. This pitch affords amazing views of Red Window Arch.
