I hiked this trail a few times to access summits such as Mts. Whitney, Muir, Mcadie & Irvine. It is one of the easiest and most maintained trail in the area.

Something other than Whitney!
Spending a windy night at Consultation Lake, Heather and I tagged Keeler and Muir amid 25+mph winds and sub-freezing temps. Loved the 3rd Class but sooo short. :(

The Muir the Merrier
I have climbed it ten times since 2001, always from the Whitney Trail.
Beautiful weather, got to see the moonlight on the Whitney crest on the way up. Some doubt that this is all 3rd class.... Was fortunate enough to pick up a permit at the last minute!

Class 3?
Looked this one over for a long time after climbing Whitney, Keeler and Crooks. Maybe it was the wet rock, maybe it was the routes we looked at but, decided against this one with no protection. Even dry I'd rate this short climb at class 4 - climbing with exposure.

Solo in winter
High winds called for a wise, but early turn around. Here is a column on it. (And this is a labor of love. No money for hits. Day job is news director.)

A 14er
I guess its technically accepted as a 14er on its own, so its worth noting. But as a 5-10 minute detour from the Whitney Main trail, its nothing to brag about.
