View from Panair to the Korab...

View from Panair to the Korab ridge. The Albanian summit ("Korab II") in the middle, below the moon. The main (border) summit is hidden behind the rocks on the left. "Korab III" (whole in Albania) to the right. We climbed the main peak and "Korab II" and they may have about the same height. "Korab III" looked definitely lower. We have not found any data about their altitudes. We descended from the col left of "Korab II" and then approximately down the visible darker green gully.

Korab 2 +3

Korab 2 is 2745m high and Korab 3 is 2716m high. Korab 3 is called 'Shulani i Radomirës' but Korab 2 is unamed or probably i don't know its name. You can see this by typing Golem Korab map on Google Images and then search for an inmage called GolemKorab.jpg. In this map it has these 2 peaks.

Re: Korab 2 +3

Fale minderit! :)
Yeah you're right, in the meantime I found a map where the 2745m height was given for 'Korab 2'.
The ridge has 4 peaks and I think Shulani i Radomirës is actually the 4th of them along the line. Our 'Korab 3' is probably unnamed too. See also this pic for comparison.
Have you been to that area?
Welcome to SP!
cheers

Peaks in Korab

When you climbed these 4 peaks what did your GPS readings say or did you have a GPS?

Re: Peaks in Korab

The map I mentioned is this one. 'Korab 3' is not marked there but I just remember there is one more peak between 'Korab 2' and Shulani i Radomirës. We didn't climb them, we only went to the tops of Korab 1 and 2. They all look easily reachable, we just didn't have time.

I think Korab 3 is a bit lower than Korab 2 (looked lower from its peak) but higher than Shulani i Radomirës.

Some more maps of Macedonian mountains are here. Don't know if you knew this website.

Unfortunately we didn't have a GPS.

I found a map

Go to Google Images and write Korab Map. Then click on a Photo saying 'Korab As Seen From Our Approach'. The go down the page and click on a image saying ''Rugged ridge'. Ithink that Photo has all the peaks. Bye

Re: I found a map

Yeah that photo shows them all. Here you can see them even better. Between 'Korab 3' and Shulani i Radomirës there are some rock towers.

I've read your Wikipedia articles - good work! I'd be careful with general statements like 'Climbers call it Korab II' as I've been probably the only one who used this name in the internet and I haven't heard it anywhere else... maybe it's better to say that it has no official name so let's call it Korab II for the time being, until someone asks the local shepherds?

Also it's written 'Two other peaks rising to 2716 and 2745 metres high are located in the Albanian part of Mount Korab.' I'd say there are three as 'Korab III' (name also unknown) is most certainly above 2700 too.

For a view from Korab II onto the main peak see also this pic.

Faleminderit!

Thanks very much for your advise on Wikipedia. I used it and I made those little changes. Its really just wonderful how Shqipëria has these high, impressive and undiscovered peaks. Well who knows some people say that that Korab is actually 2,864m high and maybe Maja Jezercë is in the 2,700m zone, only time will tell like for a long time it was thought that Maja Shkelzen was the highest North Albanian Alp peak.

Re: Faleminderit!

Who knows... I think Maja Jezerce's measurement is more or less precise +/- several metres but the accuracy of other 'official' altitudes in Bjeshket e nemuna/Prokletije is very bad, I know something about it cos those are my favourite mountains and I climbed several peaks there.

Measurements

Would you say Korab III and Sulani i Radomirës are around the same height or is Korab III a bit higher?

Re: Measurements

Hard to tell now, I haven't been on top of either of them... as I said before, it seemed to me that 'Korab III' might be a wee bit higher but that's a guess. I thought so then but now I'm not so sure anymore.
Happy New Year!
