Batognica was seen as a key to the heavy fighting along the Krn crestlines. Tunnels were built undereach others lines atop the 2164 m peak to blow up mines. The peak lost 4 meters of height from one Austrian blast. To wander atop this peak is to wander among a true open-air alpine museum.
