Hasn't voted | Are those dead trees? They look like the needle bearing kind (can't find the english word..), so not just autumn colors. I noticed the same thing when I was in Bormio this summer, large areas of mountain forest entirely DEAD. That can't be good...
Btw, VERY nice photo!!
Cheers,

Hasn't voted | These are tamaracks. Tamaracks cast their needles in the fall as do bald cypresses and metasequoias. | | Posted Oct 29, 2005 8:54 am |

Hasn't voted | Oh never heard of those, interesting, thanks. But still I don't think they'll do it in mid-summer, do you? | | Posted Oct 29, 2005 10:35 pm |

Voted 10/10 | the general term is "larch tree" ("Lärche" in German). Colors come and then needles go in October/November. I don't know what happened in Bormio. | | Posted Oct 30, 2005 1:17 am |

Hasn't voted | In America Larix species go by the name Tamarack- a great wood for starting a fire. I thought this was an autumn picture. | | Posted Oct 30, 2005 7:56 am |
