Bunovac

Bunovac

~ Velebit / South Velebit / Highest peaks area ~ Bunovac (1200m) is beautiful, 2km long karst field, on the continental terrace of South Velebit, placed below some of the highest peaks of the massif. Once area is safe from mines, left over from the early 90's war, this could be great spot for a mountain refuge because of fantastic view and water spring. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Who needs a refuge?

A small tent for 2 persons is some 1.5 kilos, a sleeping bag less than 1 kilo. Take that and you need no refuge.

Re: Who needs a refuge?

In summer yes but what about winter?! :-) Bunovac is like Rudno Polje Vid, terrible temperature inversion; -20°C here is not rare. I don't feel like camping on that temperature :-) On the edge of the forest small refuge would be invisible and there was already a shepherds house there (destroyed now). Anyway that’s just an idea, I’m not strongly for it, just imagining how great it would be to go there with tour skis and stay for a while.
