Southeastern Absaroka Crest Panorama [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Southeastern Absaroka Crest Panorama
A unique view of one of the most remote mountain ranges in the lower 48.

This is an assembled panorama viewed from the south, covering slighty more than a 90 degree field of view. Obviously, there are foreshortening issues that simplify the range. Francs Peak is 10 miles behind Wiggins Peak and sits north of the main crest. The main crest is generally 30-35 miles away, and the southern front of bigger walls is about 10 miles in front of that.

Taken from the north end of the Wind River Range. Oct 2006.

Brendon,
I am adding this picture to the main SE Absaroka page - this is fantastic!
BTW, do you know the story on the name Jupiter Peak? I can't find that name anywhere else - even Turiano's book only refers to it as Peak 12,635...

I'm not sure, it's been a while, but jimmyjay has it named on his main Abs page.

I remember putting the elevation under the name because I wasn't sure if it was used much or not.

Cool - that's probably a good call, as the only other place I've seen the name is on this page: http://www.summitpost.org/view_object.php?object_id=318176&context_id=317218

I just added a scrolling panorama of the pic to the SE Absaroka page.

That is one of the best panoramas I have seen complete with the labeling. Did you take it from the top of Whiskey Mountain? I have looked at that view many times and your labeling has answered many questions for me. Thanks for posting such a great shot.
