It's very important have some food and water during this trek.
Peito do Pombo is very far from the town and the heat is the worst problem. So buy some lunch in Sana and fresh water in the beginning of the trail.
The trail to
Peito do Pombo ( Duck Chest) 1400m, starts on
Sana town.
The beginning is very easy, with many waterfalls in the way like
Mãe, Pai, Sete Quedas and
Escorrega waterfalls. Good to a bathe...
After this section, starts the weald, with a great view to the summit. Some cows pastured in that place.
Then, the scramble between the trees turns more difficult.
The jungle is very dense and damp and the ascent turns more tiresome.
In that place is very easy lose the track. And there's no water!
After 2 hours within this forest there is!!
From Peito do Pombo it's possible to see the ocean and the
Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) surround. It's the most preserved area on Rio de Janeiro.
During the descent, enjoy the many rivulets and waterfalls with pellucid water to refresh, after this ardous trek. Me and my crew spent
7 hours on this trek, with
10Km.
